EDCI 336 Inquiry #5
I thought I would try to use AI art in a tangible way to build a project. Going into this I’m not sure how it will work out, but I’m hoping to put prompts into an AI art generator that will hopefully work to build a cohesive story. Maybe a process like this could be a way of organizing ideas and thinking of new ones.

I wanted to start with a simple prompt that would give a clear image.

A few things to note here, this was probably too complicated for the AI algorithm in a few different ways. Combining subjects is always problematic and even the face and the missing leg where the best I could get in a few tries.

Obviously the prompts used to create theses images are purely descriptive, but the images themselves can immediately raise some fun questions. Who is this woman? when are she and the wolf going? In this image I could see a fire and what appeared to be a volcano in the distance and so chose my next prompt to relate to this.

Finding images that relate to the preceding ones appropriately can be challenging, but it brings agency on the part of the person building this story. As much as you are limited by what the AI generator can produce, it can also bring to light different ways to think about the story you are building.

This final image didn’t relate to my prompt in my view, but I liked it better than the other images that were created. I think this little exercise was a fun way to explore AI art and its potential for story building. I think a future exercise might be using AI art to look at books and novels to bring visual representations to the real world.
